What worries you?

What things worries you? Your family, your finances, global warming, Covid? The list is endless. One of my ‘turn to’ passages when I am anxious or concerned is Isaiah Chapter 43. It is the antidote we need to all the worries that the news bulletins and our personal lives bring us each day.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God,” Verses 1a-3a

It begins with what seems to be impossible ‘do not fear’. How can we not fear? The news bulletins each day add more things for us to be concerned about. But the command is not based on what we can do but on what God has already done – He has redeemed us He tells us ‘You are mine!’

The passage also points out to us that it is ‘when’ and not ‘if’ we experience problems, that we can be sure that He will be with us – Why? Because He is the Lord our God.

That is something we can hold on to no matter what.
