Build Good Habits
Do you always remember to take one out with you? I’m thinking about facemasks.
It takes some time to develop a new habit – an action that becomes engrained, so that it is something that feels natural because of continued repetition. Habits are things we do without thinking.
What about other habits? What should be the habits of the Christian? I can think of several, you may come up with others.
The habit of reading the Bible We’re told in scripture itself that it is the bread of life. Christians believe that the Bible is inspired by God and the bedrock for our lives. We need to understand the Bible for ourselves, so that requires the habit of daily Bible reading and study.
The habit of praying. Talking to God each day. Just like any relationship, communication is essential, that is what the habit of daily prayer is all about, to develop a relationship with a personal God.
The habit of fellowship. It’s important to regularly meet with other Christians (physically, on-line or the phone) to share God’s truth and revelation. We need each other for encouragement to live the life God wants for us.
The habit of giving. Practising stewardship. The Christian life is not only about what we have been given, it’s also about giving – our time, our talents and our treasure.
Habits need working at, as the writer to the Hebrews well understood.” Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near”. (10:24-25)
